Summary
The Field Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team of field engineers and technicians to complete quality work in all areas of network deployments. This will include planning projects, ensuring efficient project delivery, and scheduling resources, in addition to the training and mentoring of their team. This is a traveling position, expect 50-75% of the time to be spent on the road visiting jobs to ensure quality standards are met and provide on-the-job training as required. Knowledge and ability to train in all aspects of network deployments is required including site survey, fiber optic characterization, equipment installation, integration, and testing. Successful team management, clear communication, diligence, and industry experience are key to success in this position.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain employee training plans for direct reports
- Perform quarterly check-ins with each team member to provide feedback and training suggestions
- Determine a strategic growth path for each team member
- Perform drop-in site visits to ensure quality execution of the survey, installation, and integration of packet optical networks and
- Train the team on advanced troubleshooting techniques for fiber characterization and network turn up
- Provide on-the-job training and coaching of employees as needed
- Work with QA team to ensure Telcordia, LightRiver, and customer standards are met
- Network Test & Turn-up
- Advanced knowledge of troubleshooting and testing of optical networks
- Ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Must have working knowledge of Telcordia and ITU standards
- Must have working knowledge of network infrastructure including
- Outside Plant Fiber, Data Center & Colocation Spaces, DC Power Plants
- NERC/FERC familiarity a plus
- Expert working knowledge and ability to teach the following
- Technical documentation: site survey, method of procedure, engineering design package
- Fiber Optic Characterization: OTDR, OLTS, Dispersion testing
- Equipment Installation best practices for various packet-optical hardware
- Industry/Vendor specific requirements (Nokia & Ciena focus preferred)
- Equipment Integration
- Layer 1 transport focus
- Layer2/3 experience a plus
- 3+ years of management experience required
- 5+ years of telecom experience required
- BS or BA in related technical or business fields preferred
- Willingness to travel at least 50% up to 75%
Salary Range: $110k – $120k per year
